RINGING BELL – 1978 – English American Version – 2/5

Chirin’s childhood suddenly ends when the Wolf makes his first appearance. When Chirin’s mom dies, notice the 5 stages of dieing/grief(DENIAL, ANGER, BARGAINING, DEPRESSION,ACCEPTANCE). Note= Emperor Hirohito’s favorite film was “Lambert the Sheepish Lion” where the baby fights off the wolf and saves the mother. This very scene was a statement towards the Emperor of Japan to show him what many Japanese children lost when he decided to force their families into a war.

  • Ruth Cavazos  says:

Watched the scene where Chirin’s mother dies in Japanese first. It was hard to watch. Watched it here. Still hard to watch. Personally the Japanese voice actor sounded more fit to the character and their performance was more heartfelt, but a good film is a good film.

  • KyokoFujita  says:

This reminds me in more ways of “Arashi No Yoru Ni,” or “One Stormy Night.”

The story is gripping, and powerful…still sheding tears at such tragedy.

I feel so sad for that little lamb – even if he does look like a human in a lamb costume. o__o

  • FR3DKRU3G3R  says:

Yeah, I thought it was sort of funny/depressing, especially when he’s running around in circles and everyone else is like O,o *back away* :3

  • AlfonsHidarick44  says:

I thought when he was crying over his mothers body it was a bit over dramatic

  • LADYHAGUA2010  says:

    EXELLENT!!!!

    Thanks!!!

  • Kelekona  says:

They mad because they showed the mother’s body. Originally Bambi had a scene as well where you saw Bambi’s mother’s body but they cut it out. It also doesn’t have a happy ending like Bambi.

  • thelonelion  says:

well that’s a freaking dark way of thinking

  • Kristanni20X6  says:

    They banned this movie?!

  • ZoeAnnAnime  says:

I like how the wolf just killed them and didn’t eat them. This movie isn’t that terrible idk why they banned it

  • AngieChan666  says:

so they will complain about this movie when Chirin’s mother dies, but it’s totally okay if Bambi’s mother gets shot and dies? way to be hypocritical! :D

  • ChaoticDelerium  says:

That lamb’s crying is incredibly obnoxious and this is very twisted children’s story. Rather entertaining though.

  • TheArchDandy  says:

It’s so interesting looking at the differences between the japanese and english versions. The american version sometimes has the annoying habit of not letting there be quiet or only music, like any other average cartoon, but somehow that makes it a little more upsetting in some ways when the same things happen. Hum… can’t decide what version I like better yet.
