Go In Peace

Memorial video (slideshow) about Jonathan Brandis. That’s “Close your Eyes” from the BTVS soundtrack, and an original piece called “Take Care J-Dog” from his Requiem of 2004. This was my very first video, named after the comment Jonathan’s mother put on the back side of the memory card she sent to anyone who sent the family a condolence. The video is so deeply personal and elicits so much emotion that even this much later, it still is a tough thing for me to watch. The second portion is attempting to show that Jon’s legacy continues, even after his death, and that, as it says, “no light that was born in love can ever be extinguished”. Rest in peace, my friend.

BBC – In the footsteps of Alexander (ending) 31

In the footsteps of Alexander The Great On the afternoon of June 10–11, 323 BC, Alexander died in the palace of Nebuchadrezzar II of Babylon. He was just one month short of attaining 33 years of age. Various theories have been proposed for the cause of his death which include poisoning by the sons of Antipater or others, sickness that followed a drinking party, or a relapse of the malaria he had contracted in 336 BC. It is known that on May 29, Alexander participated in a banquet organized by his friend Medius of Larissa. After some heavy drinking, immediately before or after a bath, he was forced into bed due to severe illness. The rumors of his illness circulated with the troops causing them to be more and more anxious...

Roberto Alagna : scene and Lacrymosa from “Don Carlos”

This is a very rare part of Verdi’s “Don Carlos”. This opera is the ORIGINAL french version of the future “Don Carlo”. The music is not exactly the same between the 2 operas. Tenor voice needed is not exactly the same (due to French specificities) And scenes have disappeared in the italian version. In the 1996 Chatelet’s production, the scene after Posa’s death with the beautiful Lacrymosa was reintroduced. And it is soooo moving. i remember having cried with my mom in the theatre (all the more so as this part was totally new to us !). Verdi used the orchestral music (rearranged) for his requiem’s lacrymosa… Roberto Alagna is really moving, with Jose Van Dam. And I will repeat myself : what a beautiful French he sings ! Conductor : Antonio Pappano / Stage director : Luc Bondy

† Come sweet death † Wanamaker Organ – Virgil Fox

Komm’ Susser Tod (Come sweet death) by JS Bach. The definitive version by Virgil Fox playing the Wanamaker organ (Audio) Virgil Fox did this arrangement specially for the Wanamaker organ. Bach’s image of death was softened by a transcending faith. Therefore Virgil Fox arranged the second verse of of this piece to say: On entering the kingdom of God, death is like the most brilliant sunset one can imagine. Fierce colours fill the sky; but through all these colours, an even brighter light shines from the place which is after death. I understand there was originally only one verse but Virgil added the second verse. Google say that Virgil Fox worked in collaboration with Robert Hebble arranging this piece for organ...
