Sorry, Lin Ching Hsia was Jia Baoyu. It was Sylvia Chang who played Lin Daiyu. I asm saying that Lin Ching Hsia’s face could have been rounder, more plump, like the way Baoyu is described in the book ;)

This movie follows roughly the storyline of the Yueju opera “Dream of the Red Chamber” (Shanghai, 1962). The classical restraint of the operatic production is substituted here with energetic acting an speaking by actresses mainly, and robust singing. We have come to expect these characteristics from Shaw productions. In art, there’s no right or wrong. So, let me drink to variety of interpretation and say, “Viva la difference!”

In Cao Xueqin’s novel, Baoyu has a round face. Here, our belief is suspended when Jia Baoyu is even more handsome than Lin Daiyu is beautiful ;) No doubt Sylvia Chang a big draw in this movie, but couldn’t the make-up people have given her a rounder face, and less eye make-up? Please . . . .
